Montag

An atypical and multifaceted personality, pianist Paul Montag has performed since childhood on major stages throughout Europe, the United States, Canada, Asia and North Africa.

He is one of the rare contemporary pianists to have had the privilege of performing several times in Salzburg on W. A. Mozart’s original fortepiano.

His discography, unanimously acclaimed by the specialist press (Classica Choc, 5 Diapasons…), includes Paul Hindemith’s early piano music, Claude Debussy’s piano works, On Tour with Raphaël Sévère, the complete songs of Albert Roussel and the songs of Félicien David, 1900 and #dontsmokebutenjoy. A professor at the École Normale de Musique de Paris, Paul Montag began studying the piano at the age of four. At thirteen, he was admitted to the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique de Paris in Jean-François Heisser’s class. He later continued his studies with Christian Ivaldi at the École Normale de Musique de Paris and received guidance from Jean-Claude Pennetier and Paul Badura-Skoda, among others.

A laureate of the Cziffra Foundation and the Charles Oulmont Prize of the Fondation de France, he is equally passionate about solo, chamber and vocal repertoire. His many stage partners include Pumeza Matshikiza, Rolando Villazón, Karine Deshayes, Hugues Borsarello and Raphaël Sévère, with whom he has formed a duo for several years.
